Alina Vivita

NOVEMBER
Alina Vivita

www.vivita.bandcamp.com

Alina Vivita is a banjo-centric project based in Moscow, Russia. Headed by one woman and a cast of musical friends, Vivita was created in early 2016 and already has a dedicated audience anticipating her next release. Banjoist and lead-singer Alina Vivita says, "I try to sing about things that are truthful and touch the soul. In none of my songs will you find a...lie. There always should be a tragedy in life, otherwise all is false...In Russia, there is almost no music like this." It is hard to describe and very much worth a listen - passionately-composed, banjo-infused, Russian world-folk.

Sharon Martinson (of The Littlest Birds)

DECEMBER
Sharon Martinson (of The Littlest Birds)

www.littlestbirds.net

Born in the winter in the mountains of Wyoming, Sharon Martinson picked up the banjo first as a young girl while on the front porch of her grandparent’s house, but she didn’t start playing it until nearly the end of her PhD studies, when it suddenly provided ample distraction from writing her thesis. Her ecology field project brought her to the west coast, where she join with a cellist and formed the unlikely banjo&cello duo of The Littlest Birds.  After touring for nearly 6 years, Sharon is currently reinventing Americana Banjo music with a new-meets-old-sound, recording a new album to be released in 2016. She nests in Wyoming, but is more likely to be found migrating anywhere else. She is often touring for music, sharing her soul with the world, and continues to study ecology at Dartmouth College, most recently working in Argentina and Panama. Her unique banjo playing and hauntingly beautiful voice, innate grasp of traditional music and history of the banjo, as well as an unassuming yet powerful drive to forge ahead into uncharted musical and intellectual territories have given her the ability to create a path of her own through this life, following none, and inspiring many.

Erin Inglish

PROJECT CURATOR
Erin Inglish

www.erininglish.com

Erin Inglish is a tour-de-force banjo chanteuse, a thoughtful wanderer steeped in the thick of California’s music scene. Inglish’s performances proffer passionate lyricism, toe-tapping grooves, and striking reflections about the state of the modern world. Her voice is both lush and raw, and her picking style on the five-string banjo is uniquely her own…expressive, sassy, dynamic. Erin has spent several years living abroad (in India, Madagascar, Bulgaria and Serbia) – and her songwriting reflects her elation for life, creative and exploratory nature, and passion for creating positive change through community and art. Inglish's newest album,Muse, released November, 2015, features nine tracks of original music lush with groove-laden, "blues-grass" banjo riffs, her honest and powerful vocal stylings - pure, soulful, and gritty at the same time - and a brilliant cast of guest musicians including hometown jazz maestra Inga Swearingen, Celtic-inspired duo the Stringtown Ambassadors, Steve Amadee of The Subdudes and many more. Heading back into the studio in 2016, Inglish anticipates releasing a new album in early 2017 featuring the full sound of the Erin Inglish Band and a smashing array of new songs. Says a fan, "Her melodic optimism is a lighthouse calling the rest of us to pay attention to our highest pursuits."
